| Carnival is now considered one of the top festival celebrations in Paphos, Cyrpus. This year it was a memorable event for both locals and tourists due to more people than ever working enthusiastically to ensure it’s success. The festival started with the entrance of the King Carnival on the Thursday of the Meat Week (Tsiknopempti). The second of the two Saturdays was the Carnival parade, which was spectacular. Colorful floats and groups of people singing and dancing paraded in the main roads of Paphos, creating a truly festive atmosphere. There were numerous contestants and despite the cold weather, the streets were crowded and people were really enjoying themselves.
Kv2 audio’s Cypriot distributor Riccos Sound & Light provided sound & lighting for the parade, which attracted a 6000+ capacity audience.
The main audio system used was a KV2 Audio VHD system that was flown from a crane at approx 10m following discussions and advice from VP of engineering George Krampera and Director of Technical Projects Andy Austin Brown of KV2 Audio.
The system, as shown in the photos, was configured in a simple back-to-back scenario and easily covered 120m distances in each direction. Separate outputs from the mixer for the main system and for the rest of the entire system were used, and an APEX inteli-x controller to allow time alignment via delay lines. KV2 Audio’s SD8 Stage Channel Driver was used for the other supporting systems to avoid the potential drop of the line level signal over very long distances.
After the carnival the party continued with a concert starring Vanesa Adamopoulou and Louis from the X factor. On that stage we used a single KV2 Audio ES system to cover approximately 1500 people.
The mayor of Pahos, Mr. Savvas Vergas, awarded Ricco Sound the Carnival project due to successful work on previous carnivals and similar projects, believing that Ricco Sound and Light to be the most professional and capable company on the island.
