KV2 Audio » News » IP55 Certified — Confirming What KV2 Installations Have Demonstrated for Years
2/6/2026
KV2 Audio announces IP55 certification for its ESD Series passive loudspeakers — independently verified to IEC 60 529 by an accredited testing laboratory. The certification formalises and documents the standard of environmental protection that KV2 loudspeakers have delivered in practice through years of deployments in outdoor stages, coastal venues, high-humidity environments, and demanding architectural installations across the world.
KV2 loudspeakers are built with the same precision and material quality regardless of where they are installed. IP55 certification is the independent, third-party confirmation of the craftsmanship that system designers and integrators already rely on when they specify KV2 for conditions where other systems fail.
KV2 Audio systems are found in permanent outdoor installations, touring rigs exposed to rain and temperature extremes, coastal resort venues, open-air amphitheatres, and industrial environments — contexts where unprotected loudspeakers deteriorate rapidly. The ESD Series has operated reliably in such conditions as a direct result of its construction: not a secondary treatment applied after the fact, but engineering choices made at the design stage. IP55 certification provides system integrators, consultants, and specifiers with the independently verified documentation to support their project decisions — whether for tender specifications, insurance requirements, or client confidence.
The IP (Ingress Protection) rating, defined in IEC 60 529, classifies the degree of protection an enclosure provides against the ingress of solid particles and water, independently tested and documented. The two-digit designation IP55 specifies that the enclosure is dust-protected, with no harmful deposit of dust reaching internal components, and that it withstands water jets projected from any direction without harmful effect. Unlike informal weather-resistant designations used by some manufacturers, IP55 is a formally verified rating issued by an accredited certification body, providing system integrators and specifiers with independently confirmed, documented protection data.
The ESD Series is offered in two protection variants, both carrying the IP55 rating. The WP (Weather Proof) variant uses steel metalwork with KTL cataphoretic anti-corrosion treatment and is suited to protected outdoor and semi-exposed installations. The MG (Marine Grade) variant specifies stainless steel hardware throughout, including grade 1.4301 and 1.4571 alloys with A4-rated fasteners, making it the appropriate choice for coastal, marine, and directly exposed environments. The distinction between variants lies solely in the grade of metalwork; the cabinet construction, grill treatment, and electronics protection are identical across both.
KV2 Audio manufactures all loudspeakers at its production facility in Milevsko, Czech Republic. The environmental resilience of the ESD Series results from construction choices made at the design stage, not from secondary treatments applied after the fact. The cabinet is built from Baltic birch plywood bonded with exterior-grade adhesive conforming to EN 204 D4 and finished with a Polyurea hard-coat that is abrasion-resistant and UV-stable. The grille is covered with an acoustically transparent, liquid-repellent fabric that blocks water and debris without any measurable effect on frequency response. Electronic circuit boards are protected with a conformal coating applied in accordance with IEC 60 529 requirements on all variants, sealing the electronics against dust and moisture ingress. These construction standards are consistent across the KV2 product range regardless of the installation environment. Environmental protection is achieved without altering the acoustic components. Drivers, crossovers and system tuning are identical to the standard ESD Series.
"At KV2 Audio, build quality is not a feature — it is a standard. Our loudspeakers have been specified and installed in outdoor stages, coastal venues, and demanding environments worldwide, long before any formal certification existed. IP55 is the independent, documented confirmation of what our customers have always known: a KV2 system is built to last, to perform, and to hold its acoustic integrity wherever it operates," says Dominik Krampera, responsible for business development at KV2 Audio.
The IP55-certified ESD Series will be presented at InfoComm 2026 in Las Vegas, June 17–19. KV2 Audio representatives will be available at booth N6031 and in demo room N222 to discuss the WP and MG protection variants, project specifications, and system configurations in detail.
